We are seeking a Research Technologist who will perform laboratory tasks and complete routine assays following common or established protocols and procedures.
This is a great opportunity to enhance your research career working in a renowned cancer immunology research environment in the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins. Working under the supervision of an outstanding research team in a flow cytometry lab, the position will offer training on the use of state‑of‑the‑art flow cytometry technology and development of research skills in cancer immunology.
The Research Technologist will help expand the range of services and interaction offered to researchers, which will include performing flow cytometry acquisition on animal, human fluids and/or tissue or cultured cell lines and evolve into executing and troubleshooting both analytical and sorting.
- Perform clinical and/or research laboratory experiments by following common protocols independently or with instructions.
- Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques and methods of the lab.
- Gain problem‑solving skills through progressive training, understanding of the research, and experience.
- Run lab tests and complete measurements.
- Identify and resolve common problems involved in routine assays.
- Increase skill base and knowledge of lab research and relevant assays.
- Train users in standard equipment operation and routine lab techniques and procedures.
- Set‑up experiments based on defined standards.
- Collect project data.
- Prepare, test, and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
- Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitor inventory of supplies, clean equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the duties described above.
- Daily operation of state‑of‑the‑art multi‑dimensional cell sorters, including start‑up, quality control and monitoring of performance.
- Schedule approval and billing of core usages.
- Archive and retrieve data.
- Inventory and order reagents.
- Assist in flow cytometry technological development.
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Prior experience with DiVa software.
- Experience with flow cytometry technology.
