Position OverviewPart‑Time Scientist to join the National Institute on Aging (NIA) located in Baltimore, MD.
Responsibilities- Provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging.
- Implement and perform studies aimed at detecting age‑associated changes in Protein Quality.
- Conduct longitudinal and cross‑sectional design experiments involving aging mice over an estimated four‑year period using a multi‑omics approach.
- Write, edit, and submit scientific manuscripts and reports based on data collected from the studies.
- Support laboratory staff on research projects, assay design, and method development.
- Evaluate new techniques, instruments, and software for potential incorporation into standard operating procedures.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot instruments, and train others in their use.
- Analyze data, prepare summaries, and present findings at laboratory meetings and national scientific conferences.
- Coordinate with IT staff on software issues specific to the chemistry group.
- Advise senior leadership on research opportunities, gaps, and program needs.
- Master’s degree in Biology or a related discipline.
- Field of study:
Biology. - Proficiency with MS Office suite, PowerPoint, NIH POTS, and Outlook.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Hands‑on experience with protein chemistry, post‑translational modification assessment, protein‑ligand binding, protein‑protein interactions, and immunolabeling techniques (western blotting, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, immunoprecipitation).
- Experience implementing protein assays, enzymatic assays, data reduction, and statistical analysis.
- Ability to maintain detailed electronic laboratory notebooks and databases.
- Capacity to train staff on equipment, instrumentation, and breeding/genotyping techniques for transgenic lines.
