Job Title: Research Specialist
Department: Neurodegenerative and Injury Program, School of Medicine Campus, Johns Hopkins University
Position Type: Full Time, Non‑Exempt
Schedule: 8:30am-5pm
Salary Range: $17.11 - $29.90 HRLY ($45,000 targeted; commensurate with experience)
Location: School of Medicine Campus
Responsibilities- Plan and run experiments, including protocol modifications within parameters set by investigators.
- Interpret results, read controls, evaluate outcomes using specialized knowledge.
- Evaluate experimental components for proper functioning.
- Train or orient new staff and learners in the laboratory.
- Assist with development of new techniques and instruments.
- Review published protocols and discuss with senior staff/faculty.
- Process analyzed data into figures for scientific publications.
- Order equipment and supplies, and interface with vendors.
- Facilitate problem solving for entry‑level lab members with research assays.
- Participate in protocol development, efficiency, and productivity improvements.
- Contribute to writing manuscripts and grants, particularly methodology sections.
- Assist with maintenance and preparation of iPSC‑derived neuronal (iPSN) cultures.
- Carry out routine molecular biology and biochemical assays such as western blots, qRT-PCR, and immunofluorescent staining.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field.
- One year of laboratory experience performing relevant techniques.
- Education may substitute for experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond high school diploma, as permitted by JHU equivalency formula.
- Post‑undergraduate research experience with iPSC culturing.
