Position Overview
PREP Research Associate – part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST collaborates with academic institutions on projects of mutual interest through PREP awards. Employees in this position perform technical work that underpins scientific research of the collaboration. This role focuses on advancing next‑generation building standards through structural reliability research.
Research TitleNext Generation Building Standards – Structural Reliability
Key Responsibilities- Technical contributions and finalization of two reports: a research roadmap report and a state‑of‑the‑art assessment of research gaps and needs.
- Developing nonstationary reliability methods for building standards that account for temporal variations in natural hazards, future conditions, and structural capacity.
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering or a related field.
- Expertise in probabilistic structural reliability methods and characterization of natural hazards and structural capacity for engineering design standards.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Strong record of research and publications and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger, multidisciplinary team to achieve project objectives, meet deadlines, and fulfill reporting requirements.
- U.S. citizenship preferred.
