PREP Research Associate
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
Research TitlePostdoctoral Researcher
Work DetailsResearcher will develop a thermometer based on atomic fluorescence intensity ratios. This research project will explore several novel and high-risk techniques for realizing a primary temperature sensor in a compact package. This will require operating multiple lasers to atomic transitions, fiber optic design and operation, multilevel rate equation simulations, and careful characterization of systematic effects.
Key Responsibilities- Perform experimental tasks toward realizing a primary thermometer based on rubidium atoms.
- Data analysis.
- Disseminate project results via peer‑reviewed publications and public presentations.
- PhD in Physics or a related field.
- Experience in at least two of the following areas:
- frequency stabilization of laser systems
- Python programming
- temperature metrology
- modeling population dynamics with a set of coupled rate equations
Preferred for applicants who are U.S. citizens.
Equal Opportunity StatementNIST is an equal‑opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
