This position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience Program (PREP). Individuals will perform technical work supporting research collaborations on viral measurement tools and reference materials.

Viral Measurement Tools and Reference Materials
Location: National Institute of Standards and Technology, Material Measurement Laboratory
U.S. Citizenship: Preferred
Key Responsibilities- Maintain a portfolio of diverse viruses (up to BSL‑2) through onboarding, culturing, and characterization to meet stakeholder needs.
- Perform viral and eukaryotic cell culture, plaque assays, and develop and optimize viral culture protocols.
- Consult and collaborate with stakeholders in microbiome and pathogen detection communities.
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic records.
- Present results through reports, manuscripts, and oral presentations.
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Virology, Microbiology, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience in virology or related disciplines.
- Experience with plaque assays to measure cytopathic effect.
- Experience developing viral infectivity assays, including for non‑cytopathic viruses.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
