ORPC provides a centralized resource to ensure UMBC conducts its research activities in a manner consistent with federal, state and institutional regulatory requirements. ORPC collaborates with the UMBC community to follow the highest ethical standards governing research activities. The UMBC Research Compliance Program areas include Human Subjects Protections, Animal Care and Use, Institutional Biosafety Research, Export Control, Conflicts of Interest, Responsible Conduct of Research and supporting the Office of Research and Creative Achievement (ORCA) Vice President on requirements associated with allegations of misconduct in research and other scholarly activities.
Position OverviewThe Institutional Review Board Manager will be responsible for the management of UMBC’s IRB program. The primary responsibility will be to manage, develop and implement efficient procedures to facilitate the processing of human protocols in accordance with UMBC, federal accreditation, and state policies and procedures.

- Performing review of complex research protocols, including identifying problems and issues in the submission application and contacting the investigator verbally or in writing to request additional materials.
- Serving as an expert liaison between the research investigator and the reviewer, as well as educating parties on relevant and emerging regulations and related risk management issues.
- Providing assistance to upper management in preparation for accreditation and in various compliance and quality assurance activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in a relevant field.
- At least four years of experience in the conduct or administration of research with three years working specifically in an IRB setting.
- Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local human subjects research regulations is essential.
- Must obtain certification as a PRIM&R IRB Professional (CIP) or equivalent within one year of start date or meeting eligibility.
- Master's or Doctorate Degree in a relevant field.
- At least five years of experience in an IRB academic setting.
- Significant experience in compliance monitoring, auditing, and regulatory affairs. Specific duties include conducting compliance reviews, developing policies, and training staff.
- Certification as a PRIM&R IRB Professional (CIP) or equivalent.
A background check will be required.

Salary: $75,000 - $84,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
