We seek a highly motivated and independent researcher to lead scientific and technology-development efforts focused on microfluidic-based in vitro diagnostic technologies for bloodstream infections as part of an NIH-funded project. The position will also provide opportunities to contribute to broader diagnostic technology development in infectious diseases and cancer.
Key Responsibilities- Independently lead and collaboratively advance research projects in disease diagnostics, including cancere and infectious deisases.
- Develop, optimize, troubleshoot, and validate nucleic acid for diagnostic applications.
- Contribute to the design, prototyping, fabrication, and testing of microfluidic devices and integrated diagnostic workflows.
- Mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
- Prepare progress reports and present research findings to collaborators, sponsors, and funding agencies.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute to competitive grant and contract proposals to federal agencies, including NIH.
- Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, microbiology, molecular biology, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated research experience in in vitro diagnostics for human and/or animal infectious diseases.
- Experience with molecular diagnostic methods such as PCR, digital PCR, LAMP, RPA, CRISPR-based assays, or related technologies.
- Experience designing, fabricating, and testing microfluidic devices or platforms, including methods such as cleanroom microfabrication, laser cutting, thermoforming, or 3D printing.
- Experience with microscopy-based characterization and assay readout.
- Proficiency in data analysis and computational tools such as MATLAB, Python, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with a record of publishing and presenting research.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior researchers and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate - e.g., years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors;
geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.
