An NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available in the Romerio Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying HIV-1 persistence and to develop innovative strategies toward an HIV-1 cure
.

Our research focuses on how viral and host factors enable HIV-1 to persist despite antiretroviral therapy, with particular emphasis on the RNA and protein products of the HIV-1 antisense gene asp. The lab investigates basic molecular mechanisms of viral persistence and pursues translational applications of our findings.

We are seeking a scientist with demonstrated expertise in molecular biology and virology
. Experience with HIV-1, viral latency, gene regulation, and lentiviral vector engineering is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, highly motivated, well‑organized, technically proficient, critically minded, and able to work independently but collaboratively with others. They should be excited by challenging biological questions and translational research aimed at developing new strategies to achieve an HIV-1 cure.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in virology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or a related field
  • Demonstrated research experience in molecular biology and virology
  • Proven experience with the production and use of lentiviral vectors
  • Strong record of experimental research and scientific communication
Preferred:
  • Experience with HIV-1 or other retroviruses
  • Experience studying viral latency, persistence, or reservoir biology
  • Expertise in molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, gene expression analysis, and/or viral vector engineering
  • A strong interest in translational research and HIV-1 cure strategies
