The Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics is pleased to invite applications for the Hecht Levi Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Bioethics, a two-year program of study and experiential learning in bioethics at the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics. The Program is seeking applicants to begin this fellowship in September 2027.
The Fellowship aims to launch the careers of the next generation of bioethics scholars. Fellows participate in weekly seminars and discussions, pursue their own scholarship in bioethics, engage in teaching, and often collaborate with faculty on bioethics research projects. Each Fellow designs an individual program tailored to their particular goals, interests, and background.
Hecht Levi Postdoctoral Fellows have access to a range of activities and opportunities,including:
- Weekly seminars, presentations and discussions with bioethics scholars
- Individualized research program;
- Bioethics coursework through the Berman Institute's Master in Bioethics program;
- Mentoring in bioethics;
- Teaching (serve as course director, co-director, or TA depending on experience and background)
Salary/Benefits:
- $65,000 per year, plus health and other standard benefits available to all post-doctoral fellows of Johns Hopkins University
- $2,000 per year for travel/lodging and registration at relevant conferences
Qualifications
- Doctoral-level degree in bioethics, philosophy, public health, law, medicine, social science, history or other relevant discipline. Applicants must defend their dissertation prior to July 1, 2027.
- Doctoral degree was received no more than three years prior to the Final date to receive applications.
- Scholarly interest in bioethics.

Please note that PRO-UAW has established a union which represents postdoctoral researchers, including postdoctoral fellows and postdoctoral research fellows at the Johns Hopkins University. Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
