Research Technologist
The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated Research Technologist interested in advancing research in cancer genetics, epigenetics, and precision medicine. This position will be embedded in a highly collaborative team aiming to understand the complex interplay of molecular genetic and epigenetic alterations in driving cancer initiation and progression, and to translate that knowledge to develop new ways to detect and treat human cancers
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Perform clinical and/or research laboratory experiments by following common protocols independently or with instructions.
- Use basic science knowledge to learn techniques and methods of the lab.
- Gain problem-solving skills through progressive training, understanding of the research, and experience.
- Run lab tests and complete measurements.
- Identify and resolve common problems involved in routine assays.
- Increase skill base and knowledge of lab research and relevant assays.
- Train users in standard equipment operation and routine lab techniques and procedures.
- Set-up experiments based on defined standards.
- Collect project data.
- Prepare, test, and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
- Perform related laboratory maintenance, monitor inventory of supplies, clean equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work with other staff, students, post-doctoral fellows, and faculty to carry out experiments
- Assist with laboratory maintenance of inventory, safety, equipment, and protocols
- Interfaces and works with other collaborating labs to carry out inter-disciplinary research
- Required - collegial and professional demeanor with willingness to work in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Preferred
- Experience with biochemistry, molecular, and cell biological techniques and principles preferred
- Occasionally, in rare instances, experiments and laboratory maintenance requirements may necessitate work during off-hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
