Primary Duties
- Responsible for providing subject matter expertise and direction in institutional effectiveness research designs, analysis, reporting, and management of quantitative and qualitative data. The work primarily consists of leading the collection, validation, and reporting on data analysis on data, and presenting the results of those analyses to internal and external stakeholders.
- Understands, evaluates, and elicits requirements for complex data questions and challenges. Participates as a member or a lead on multi-function teams and project planning activities. Helps to ensure that projects are completed in a timely and effective manner.
- The Lead Data Research Analyst independently develops and oversees reporting on institutional research data/initiatives and exercises leadership in data management and analysis.
- Demonstrates expertise in statistical applications such as SPSS, SAS, R, STATA, and Excel. Use statistical, reporting, database, and visualization tools such as SAS, SPSS, R, STATA, SQL, Power BI, Excel, and Banner or similar systems to extract, analyze, summarize, and present institutional data.
- Uses subject matter and technical expertise to identify and define institutional research questions and data elements, and integrates them into institutional research design. Leads the planning stages of institutional research initiatives and analysis and introduces new statistical institutional methodologies and research designs.
- Develops, recommends, modifies, and implements policies and procedures and/or methods for institutional effectiveness research. Leads the development and formulates best practices and protocols in data collection, data quality, warehousing, analysis, and reporting including developing special forms and/or formats for analyzing and presenting data.
- Independently cleans, validates, and analyzes institutional research data in order to prepare required institutional reports. Searches relevant literature, develops conclusions, writes reports, prepare and deliver presentations of relevant findings and conclusions, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Performs sophisticated data searches and exchanges among micro, mini, and mainframe-based statistical software applications. Establishes and maintains database files, performs required data extraction through programming and reports on progress of programs, studies, and/or projects.
- May mentor less experienced members of the IEIE team, develop training, and provide continued guidance. May review analysis and reports of less experienced members of the IEIE team.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Education:Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Social Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Information Science, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration Health Science or in a or in a field of study related to the research. Master's degree in a field of study related to the research preferred.
Experience:Three (3) years of related experience in a research environment including two (2) years in the relevant research specialization, i.e., institutional research, and/or data analysis and management.
Preferred experience includes SAS, STATA, SPSS, Power BI, Excel, SQL, and/or higher education data systems such as Banner, and/or IPEDS reporting.
Other:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

- Skill in statistical programming, interpretation, and data analysis using statistical software as well as spreadsheet and database software applications. Ability to develop policies, procedures, and introduce changes as necessary.
- Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritize appropriately.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
