CI - Laboratory Research Technician Job Baltimore area,Maryland USA,Research/Development

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking aLaboratory Research Technician to join the Chu laboratory in the Biomaterials and Regenerative Dental Medicine department. Alaboratory research technician is needed to perform routine and standardized biological procedures, including mouse colony maintenance (genotyping/animal husbandry), preparing common use chemical solutions, and overseeing lab safety compliance.

This is a Full-Time, 6-month, Contractual position.

Primary Duties:

Performs routine biological procedures such as gelelectrophoresis, blotting, chromatography, and DNA extractions;chemical procedures such as simple synthesis, or product isolation,or biophysical procedures such as optical and kinetics measurements.

Prepares chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, and buffers.

Assists in conducting routine assays such as enzyme-linkedimmunosorbent assays (ELISA) and complement fixations.

Assists with sterile procedures.

Performs cell or tissue cultures.

Assists with animal colony management, including genotyping.

Collects, prepares, and processes specimens.

Acquires images and data from biochemical or other assays.

Assists in conducting research on current scientific literature using computerized applications.

Collects, records, and enters research data.

Performs wipe tests, general housekeeping of laboratory, and operation of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters,microscopes, incubators, autoclaves, spectrometers, and gas andliquid chromatographs.

Maintains chemicals and equipment inventory.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

General knowledge of the principles and practices of natural and/or chemical sciences; of the safe and proper handling and disposal of applicable specimens, materials, and equipment. Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use computers and related software applications; to lift, transport and deliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods; to wearand work in personal protective equipment.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance ofthe work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
