Job SummaryThe City of Baltimore’s Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services (MOHS) is seeking a dynamic professional for the accountant II position. MOHS is the designated lead agency for the Continuum of Care (CoC) and works to implement federal, state, and local policy and best practices in addition to administering and monitoring homeless services grants. MOHS administers approximately $48 million annually for programs that include street outreach, emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, permanent supportive housing, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA), meal programs, and eviction prevention.
Each year, through a network of partner providers, the homeless services program delivers housing and supportive services to over 25,000 individuals and families.
An Accountant II performs such lead work as assigning, reviewing and approving the work of accounting personnel or performs specialized accounting work. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Have four years of experience in performing accounting work.
Equivalency:
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of accounting and routine auditing practices and procedures.
- Ability to maintain accounts and compile and write financial reports.
- Ability to assign and review the work of others.
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Analytical ability.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and City agency representatives.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-month mandatory probation.
Financial DisclosureThis position is required to complete a Financial Disclosure pursuant to Sections 7-7, 7-8, and 7-9 of the City Ethics Law. The initial financial disclosure must be submitted within 30 days of hire.
