Position Summary
The Environmental Field Chemist I works both indoors and outdoors at various customer sites, serving as an emerging partner to ensure safety standards, package materials according to required regulations, and maintain up‑to‑date documentation.
Principal Responsibilities- Collect, characterize, and package customer waste for final disposal.
- Assist in safely transporting customer waste in compliance with all federal regulations.
- Support customer paperwork, including packing lists, waste labels, and shipping documents.
- Participate in onsite support at customer locations—inspections, waste collection, chemical dispensing, inventory management, housekeeping, and outbound waste shipments.
- Collaborate with the team to identify suspected contents via internal sampling procedures and categorization tests (Field Screens).
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of federal and state environmental and transportation regulations.
- DOT and RCRA experience preferred.
- Ability to perform proper waste sampling, create accurate waste characterizations and profiles, and address difficult situations constructively.
- Proficiency in computer technology for communication, data gathering, and reporting.
- Basic communication skills for reading, analyzing, and interpreting business documentation, technical procedures, and government regulations.
- Positive attitude and professionalism when interacting with customers and team members.
- Willingness to travel to customer locations.
- Current 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification (with 8‑hour refresher) or ability to pass the course upon hire.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry principles and practices.
- Valid driver’s license and a motor vehicle record that meets company policy standards.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test certification.
- Ability to regularly lift or move objects weighing 40lbs or more.
