Security Guards are responsible for conducting a variety of security related duties and must be familiar with current Federal and State Laws, USCG policies, practices, and Standard Operating Procedures. Responsibilities include controlling entry/exit posts; conducting roving patrols; controlling, issuing and storing keys; monitoring alarm and fire systems; enforcing building rules and regulations; prohibiting unauthorized access; responding to incidents, accidents, injuries and illnesses;
and performing additional duties as required by supervision or management. Applicants selected will be subject to a background/security investigation and must remain drug free during employment.
This position reports directly to a Shift Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Controlling entrance/exit posts.
- Conducting roving patrols.
- Controlling, issuing and storing keys.
- Monitoring alarm and fire systems.
- Enforcing building rules and regulations.
- Prohibiting unauthorized access.
- Responding to incidents, accidents, injuries and illnesses.
- Daily clerical/administrative support (i.e., logs, journals, and pass-downs).
- Other duties as required by supervision or management.
- Other duties as assigned.
- May require occasional travel.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge and ability to perform all required guard services duties.
Experience
- Experience in security or law enforcement.
Requirements
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
- No felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on reliability, including those under the Lautenberg Act.
- Must be 21 years of age to be armed.
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Valid state driver's license.
- State Security Guard licenses/permits as required.
- Obtain and maintain Government approval.
- No record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession or manufacture in the past five years; drug testing may be conducted prior to hiring.
- Annual drug testing may be conducted.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to accept and respond to new emergent and unique project task requirements.
- Ability to present ideas clearly and succinctly, both in writing and verbally to coworkers, team members, internal department groups, and external entities including other departments.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods during gate guard duty.
- Must be free from any communicable disease.
- Must possess binocular vision correctable to 20/20 (Snellen) and not be colorblind.
- Must be capable of hearing ordinary conversation at 20 feet without artificial devices.
- Work performed in both uncontrolled and controlled environments; may be exposed to weather conditions.
- Noise level is usually moderate.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable reference and background check results.
