Position: Public Safety Supervisor (NCS) - Baltimore Convention Center

Job Summary

A Public Safety Supervisor serves as a first‑line supervisor responsible for scheduling, directing, training, and supervising personnel performing the public safety function for the Convention Center. Public Safety Supervisors prepare reports as needed; investigate and review all reported incidents; prepare, complete, and review evaluations and other administrative tasks; and provide security and safety for guests, employees, contractors, property, and the facility.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Safety.

Essential Functions
  • Provide security and safety for guests, employees, property and the facility.
  • Respond to requests for assistance and information in a helpful and courteous manner.
  • Monitor and control movement and conduct of Public Safety Officers and public during events.
  • Enforce rules and regulations and maintain order at and in the vicinity of the Convention Center.
  • Ensure personnel react and report their involvement in assignments and activity in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Report all significant incidents in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure ongoing routine activities are accomplished timely.
  • Monitor two‑way communication console, fire, and life safety systems.
  • Provide and/or facilitate the initial and ongoing training for Public Safety staff.
  • Assist in the preparation, execution, and wrap‑up of events as required or directed.
  • Provide written reports to the Director of Building Services and Assistant Director of Public Safety relative to any personnel issues.
  • Conduct daily inspection of the facility.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director regarding attendance monitoring, counsels, and recommend disciplinary action.
  • Review subordinates’ written reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure staff maintains proper care of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Keep informed of facility activities to ensure proper scheduling and assignment of staff.
  • Conduct briefings with Public Safety staff regarding assignments, activities in the facility, and dissemination of pertinent departmental information.
  • Ensure personnel report for duty on time and that shifts are staffed appropriately.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED Certification.
  • Experience:

    Five years of security officer experience or related experience, with at least three years of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate good judgment with facility regulations and security policies and practices.
  • Resolve difficult and sensitive situations diplomatically and tactfully.
  • Work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, to provide 24/7 coverage.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to foster a welcoming, effective, and efficient environment for clients, guests, contractors, employees, and co‑workers.
  • Display exceptional ethics, honesty, integrity, and respect for confidentiality.
  • Enforce Baltimore City Policies, Baltimore Convention Center Policies, and Public Safety policies.
  • Show excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exhibit strong customer/guest service skills.
  • Be computer literate with working knowledge of general Microsoft Office programs.
  • Know departmental safety and security procedures and practices.
Additional Information

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed. All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6‑month mandatory probation.
