About the Role
The University of Maryland, Baltimore Department of Police and Public Safety is hiring a Security Guard Supervisor to oversee a team of security guards and ensure protection of buildings, properties, occupants, and visitors during normal operations and special events.

PrimaryDuties
- Determine work priorities, plan and distribute work assignments, and review work to ensure it is accurate, timely, professional, and compliant with established regulations; provide guidance and training to a team of security guards.
- Develop and coordinate staffing schedules to ensure coverage at all established security posts for each shift; ensure each guard understands post requirements, including completion of security logs.
- Conduct audits of security logs to ensure compliance with established procedures.
- Review, communicate, and provide appropriate training on changes or additions to normal routines, updates to security alarm and camera systems, security software, badge recognition and validation process, and emergency response procedures.
- Assist leadership in overseeing shift activities, including providing input for performance evaluations.
- Perform all the duties of a security guard.

EducationHigh school diploma or GED.
ExperienceFive (5) years progressively responsible related experience, including at least one year in supervisory capacity.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to supervise and train assigned staff; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; complete basic reports; use laptops, desktops, and other computer systems configured for security operations; assist emergency response teams from police and fire departments; operate two‑way communications devices, cell phones, and desk phones; knowledge of security system operations and protocols; diagnose operational problems and implement corrective action.
QualificationSubstitution
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year‑for‑year basis with 30 college credits equivalent to one year of experience.
Conditions of Employment- Applicants must submit to and successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
- Selected candidates may be subject to medical inquiries or examinations.
- A non‑commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license, valid in Maryland, may be required.
- Employees may be subject to pre‑employment and random drug testing.
- Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are not eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
$60,500 – $62,439.02 pre‑probation, commensurate with education and experience.
