Job Requirements
- Serve as the on-shift supervisor and shift commander, providing direct leadership, guidance, and accountability for all assigned security personnel and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery.
- Conduct roll-call briefings to communicate operational priorities, safety information, staffing assignments, and expectations for Security Officers, Security Officers First Class, and Senior Security Officers.
- Monitor staff performance throughout the shift, providing coaching, corrective guidance, and timely documentation of performance concerns, commendations, or policy violations in accordance with procedures.
- Oversee and command responses to high-acuity, complex, or multi-scene incidents, ensuring compliance with departmental policy, legal requirements, and safety standards.
- Review, approve, and ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of incident reports, safety documentation, and investigative summaries; return incomplete or deficient reports for correction as necessary.
- Conduct or oversee follow-up investigations, including secondary interviews, evidence review, and documentation validation; coordinate with Investigations, Risk Management, HR, Legal, and law enforcement as appropriate.
- Assess and adjust staffing throughout the shift to address callouts, high-acuity units, special events, emergent situations, or operational surges; ensure adequate coverage across assigned areas.
- Serve as the primary communication and coordination point between field personnel, Dispatch, hospital leadership, clinical teams, and external agencies including law enforcement and fire/EMS.
- Ensure compliance with departmental SOPs, post orders, safety standards, and regulatory requirements through active supervision, quality checks, and corrective follow-up.
- Identify safety hazards, operational deficiencies, security vulnerabilities, and equipment issues; implement immediate mitigation strategies and elevate issues to leadership as required.
- Support training, onboarding, and professional development efforts by reinforcing policy expectations, coordinating remedial training, and mentoring assigned personnel.
- Ensure readiness and proper functioning of security equipment including radios, alarms, access control systems, body-worn cameras, and weapons detection technology; initiate corrective actions when deficiencies are identified.
- Represent the Security Department with professionalism, modeling strong customer service, effective communication, and appropriate conflict-resolution skills in all interactions.
- Prepare and submit supervisory documentation including shift summaries, incident escalations, performance notes, and staffing concerns for Lieutenant or Manager review.
- Act as the incident commander during emergencies, implementing emergency plans, coordinating evacuations, and maintaining operational control until relieved by higher command.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Three (3) years of security experience
- Completion of an approved de-escalation course on crisis intervention is required within 90 days of starting in the position.
