Salary Range

$37,965.00 - $43,781.00 Annually

Job Summary

A Traffic Signal Installer I installs, maintains and repairs signals and safety equipment. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek including evening, weekend and holiday hours on a 24-hour on-call basis in emergencies. Work is performed primarily outdoors where there is exposure to inclement weather, traffic, heights, manholes, cables and electrical wires.

Work requires strenuous physical exertion in the lifting of heavy cables and signal equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • AND
  • Experience:

    Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
  • OR
  • Equivalency Notes:
    An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to learn the methods and techniques of installing and maintaining traffic signals.
Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained es.org.
