Position: Shop Trailer Mechanic II $3000 New Hire Bonus

JOB SUMMARY

Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic II
. This is a dedicated on‑site shop position and we do not provide emergency side‑of‑the‑road type of repairs. The Shop Trailer Technician II will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.

The Shop Trailer Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Sr Shop Trailer Technician or higher and assists higher‑level technicians with repairs while continuing to learn advanced mechanical skills. A successful Shop Trailer Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.

DUTIES
  • Always follows and complies with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently determines parts required for each job and interacts with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment and assists in cleanup at the end of each day for tools, parts, and equipment.
  • Applies knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform one’s job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job.
  • Works with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manages concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
  • Acts with integrity, demonstrates honesty, keeps commitments, behaves consistently, keeps sensitive information confidential, and adheres to ethical and professional standards.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment.
  • Performs routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
  • Uses hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Documents according to company standards and uploads pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on repair orders (RO) using company‑issued devices and/or Karmak application.
  • Accurately completes DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains a high level of productivity and works within or close to most standard repair times.
  • Communicates with Shop Manager and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings or notes.
  • Performs all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Participates in and completes all company‑required safety training.
  • Maintains shop‑assigned service trucks, conducts safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Performs minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, and trailer steering systems.
  • Adheres to company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Diagnoses, adjusts, and repairs various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, trailer steering systems, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
  • Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information, and uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
  • Inspects, tests, and listens to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Assists Shop Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline; or 5 years’ experience in a related…
