Mobile Diesel & Trailer TechnicianThe Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher and continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
A successful Technician complies with all company policies and achieves high level performance metrics.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Repair trailer equipment and systems including aluminum and chem‑lite, brake systems, air lines, pumps, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment such as HVAC, air conditioning, electrical and mechanical systems.
- Diagnose and repair trailer equipment including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
- Inspect, test, and diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to ensure proper function.
- Independently manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle with safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation.
- Work independently and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and meet Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for approvals and estimates.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years of related experience (or alternative combinations such as a degree/certification + 5 years of experience).
- Possess hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain ASE certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical or provide a valid DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining.
- Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver license.
- Maintain a clean driving record; 3‑year MVR review required.
