About the Role

This position is responsible for general facility, building and equipment maintenance and repair, both scheduled and unscheduled tasks, as assigned by the Call Center and/or Facilities and Maintenance management. Tasks include work order completion, preventative maintenance, problem identification and resolution, design of minor plumbing/piping systems, determination of material and supplies required for problem resolution, documentation of activities, use of the Computer Maintenance Management System, and communication with the department’s management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Mechanic I and II – Plumbing classification.
  • Install, inspect, test, diagnose, maintain, replace and repair plumbing/piping systems, including domestic water, sanitary and waste water, fire protection, steam and condensate, cooling and hot water heating, medical gas and vacuum systems, large‑diameter pipes, flanged and Victaulic fittings, and specialized commercial plumbing equipment.
  • Utilize power pipe threading, pipe freezing, hot tap, and concrete core‑drilling equipment.
  • Design minor plumbing/piping systems and/or system alterations and develop specifications using data and standard engineering practices.
  • Determine specialized equipment and components for alterations.
  • Determine project scope, schedules, manpower, material, equipment, and complete tasks.
  • Request and secure materials, supplies, and equipment from stock or procurement.
  • Develop project schedules, scope of work and requirements.
  • Maintain work areas, equipment rooms, and tools in an operational, clean, orderly state.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks and assist higher classification job duties as assigned.
  • Document work activity with written records and electronically via the Computer Maintenance Management System.
  • Read and interpret specifications, work orders, instructions, models, and graphic illustrations.
  • Mentor newly assigned employees.
  • Coordinate plumbing/piping work schedules with other trade mechanics (electricians, HVACR, carpenters) to ensure timely completion of tasks/projects.
  • Use computer‑based hospital systems for education, performance reviews, email, etc.
Requirements
  • Education:

    Associate's degree preferred.
  • Experience:

    5-7 years of commercial plumbing experience.
  • Certification/Licensure:
    State of Maryland Journeyman Plumber license.

Union rate $30.68 per hour.
