Plumber, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Schedule:
Full‑time, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday‑Friday (no weekends).

About the RoleThis position is responsible for general facility, building and equipment maintenance and repair (both scheduled and unscheduled tasks) as assigned by the Call Center or Facilities & Maintenance management. Duties include work order completion, preventative maintenance, problem identification and resolution, design of minor plumbing/piping systems, determination of materials and supplies, documentation, use of the CMMS, and communication with department management.
Key Responsibilities- Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Mechanic I and II – Plumbing classification.
- Installs, inspects, tests, diagnoses, maintains, replaces and repairs plumbing/piping systems (water, waste, fire protection, steam, medical gas, vacuum, large‑diameter, Victaulic fittings, temperature control valves, filters, fixtures, etc.) according to departmental procedures, manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Utilizes and operates power pipe threading and other plumbing equipment such as pipe‑freezing, hot‑tap, concrete core‑drilling machines, etc.
- Designs minor plumbing/piping systems and/or system alterations and plans specifications using data and standard engineering practices.
- Determines specialized equipment and components for alterations.
- Establishes project scope, schedules, manpower, material, equipment and related project planning.
- Requests and secures required materials, supplies and equipment from stock or procurement.
- Develops project schedules and scope of work.
- Maintains work areas, equipment rooms, and tools to be operational, clean and orderly per departmental guidelines.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as assigned and assists higher‑classification departmental jobs as needed.
- Documents work activity in writing and electronically using CMMS per guidelines.
- Interprets specifications, work orders, instructions, models, blueprints and diagrams.
- Mentors newly assigned employees.
- Coordinates plumbing/piping work schedules with other trade mechanics (electricians, HVACR mechanics, carpenters, etc.) for timely completion.
- Uses computer‑based hospital systems for education, performance reviews, email, etc.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- 5–7 years of commercial plumbing experience.
- State of Maryland Journeyman Plumber license.
- Full MD Driver’s license and good driving record.
Union rate: $30.68 per hour.
