Skilled Trade Specialist III – Plumber
Position Overview:
Licensed journey‑level plumber responsible for inspecting, approving, and performing plumbing work at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport) in Anne Arundel County, MD. Employees in this role are essential and may be required to work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Inspect and approve plumbing work performed by outside contractors or non‑licensed in‑house staff.
- Carry out full-range plumbing installation and repair work in accordance with industry standards.
- Perform crew duties as required.
- Maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back requirements.
- Work with or be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead‑based paint, or chromium, including periodic medical testing and hazardous materials training when required.
- Comply with all policies and procedures for Essential Employee status.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four years of experience as a plumber and possession of a Journey level or higher plumber license issued by the Maryland State Board of Plumbing.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts and be available for call‑in duties as needed.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland, with license number and expiration date listed on the application.
- During the probationary period, required to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) as applicable.
- Must acquire an Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations prior to permanent appointment.
- May need to satisfy agency training and certification requirements for permanent status.
- Maintenance of a journey or higher plumbing license is required for permanent status.
- Extensive pre‑employment security background check as required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
- Subject to substance abuse testing and pre‑employment drug testing in accordance with Maryland regulations.
- Possible requirement to demonstrate ability to perform maintenance on high structures and in cramped quarters.
- Employees must sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to Essential Employee status.
- Covering union membership may be applicable.
