Welder / MIG/MAG/TIG, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Salary: $50,567.00 - $65,979.00 annually. Hiring salary range: $50,567.00 - $58,273.00 annually.
Position OverviewThe City of Baltimore is seeking a Class A Welder to apply heat to metal pieces to melt, fuse, and form a permanent bond. This class does not involve supervisory duties and requires moderate supervision from a technical superior.
ResponsibilitiesWork will be performed in a repair shop with exposure to welding torches, gases, fumes, and dust. Physical exertion is required, including lifting, bending, stooping, and working in awkward positions.
Minimum Qualifications- Education:
High school graduation or GED certificate. - Experience:
Minimum three years of welding experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted: six months of additional welding experience for each year of high school or GED requirement, or one year of welding coursework in an accredited high school or vocational school for every six months of experience. - Licenses:
Valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent out-of-state license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management. - Application submission with a copy of a valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of welding tools, materials, and techniques.
- Knowledge of parts replacement and alignment procedures.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to read and understand work orders, specifications, and blueprints.
- Ability to safely use gas and electric arc welding equipment.
- Ability to inspect welds for bead size and other specifications.
- Background check:
Eligible candidates will authorize a criminal background check or fingerprinting. - Probation: A mandatory six‑month probation period for all selected individuals.
- Eligibility:
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies for at least six months. - Final date to receive applications:
