Compensation: $30.48 - $38.10 per hour, determined by experience, equity and budget.

- Install, service and repair residential and commercial HVAC equipment, including heat pumps, refrigerators, fume hoods, window units, exhaust ventilators, coolers, deep freezers and unit ventilators.
- Regulate and monitor air conditioning compressors, cooling‑tower fans and building air‑handling equipment.
- Test air and hydronic systems to isolate problems; adjust distribution valves and reset temperature and humidity controls.
- Perform service tasks and install wiring and controls for low‑line‑voltage systems.
- Diagnose HVAC system problems using computer applications.
- Review mechanical blueprints, schematics, specifications and performance data to interpret system problems and performance.
- Service and repair traps, flash tanks, piping, control valves, condensate pumps and meters on steam systems.
- Perform mechanical joining of piping through soldering, brazing and gas welding.
- Insulate piping and mechanical equipment; repair insulation in air duct systems.
- Assist with snow plowing and snow/ice removal campus‑wide as required.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
- Education:
Vocational or technical training in HVAC or a related field (or equivalent). - Certifications/Licenses:
Relevant HVAC certifications preferred. - Experience:
Minimum 3–5 years related experience as an HVAC mechanic. - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC principles, refrigeration, refrigerant types, environmental impact and gas reclamation.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, National Electrical Code and basic mathematics.
- Understanding of plumbing, steam‑fitting and electrical trades related to HVAC.
- Proficiency in installing, repairing and maintaining commercial or industrial HVAC equipment.
- Skill with tools and equipment, welding, brazing, soldering, reading blueprints and interpreting contract documents.
- Use of dial indicators, vernier calipers and depth micrometers.
- Computer diagnostic skills for HVAC systems.
- Ability to read and explain manufacturer maintenance recommendations, prepare reports, and communicate effectively.
- Leadership: supervise and train HVAC mechanics and maintenance personnel.
- Programming HVAC system operations on computers and estimating installation costs up to 100 tons.
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, holidays and on‑call duties.
- Driver’s clearance ability.

Work involves heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces and lifting moderately heavy (20–50 pounds) items, occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or more). The environment may involve exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, cold, heat, noise, vibrations, dampness and hazardous equipment. Protective clothing such as earplugs, hard hats, masks, gloves and insulated clothing is normally required.
