The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprising four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. Nature

of Work

The main purpose of this position is to perform journey‑level high‑voltage electrical work in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standard practices or rules governing the electrical trade.

Responsibilities
  • Independently perform high‑voltage electrical installation, connection, maintenance, and repair work in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standard practices.
  • Work with electrical circuits carrying in excess of 600 volts, in accordance with the National Electrical Code and the Underwriter's Rules for electrical wiring and installation.
  • Perform maintenance work outdoors under all weather conditions or indoors, and be able to move objects weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Work on equipment located on high poles or in other elevated locations, and perform duties in cramped quarters, buildings, or underground.
  • Serve as an essential employee subject to emergency call‑back procedures 24 hours a day when required to maintain continuous operation of a facility.
  • Work rotating shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Employees receive general supervision from a Facility Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of experience working with high‑voltage (600 volts and up) service, switch gear and control wiring or large (30 horsepower or more) motors, compressors and motor circuitry. Two (2) years of this experience must have been in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • Applicants must specify the high‑voltage job duties performed. Provide complete and accurate information, including all relevant experience (full or part‑time, volunteer, military, acting capacity, or any other experience). If you have held more than one position at the same employer, list each position and the length of time held.
  • Additional work experience performing skilled trades may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
  • A certificate from a vocational‑technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non‑commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
