Job Summary

A Utility Meter Technician Supervisor oversees the activities of subordinates engaged in the reading, repair and maintenance of water meters and the resolution of a variety of metered water customer service requests. The role involves supervising utility meter technicians, receiving general supervision from a technical superior, working a conventional workweek with occasional overtime, performing work outdoors, and experiencing minimal to moderate physical exertion.

• Plan and schedule utility meter maintenance activities.
• Assign, review and approve the work of others.
• Operate water meter valves and related equipment.
• Complete forms, reports, and arithmetic computations.
• Communicate effectively with consumers and staff.
• Evaluate staff performance, discipline, and recommend hiring, firing, and promotion.

• Graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED.
• Four years of experience in installation, maintenance and repair of water meters, including two years of lead responsibilities.
• Valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent, and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.

• Knowledge of tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of water meters.
• Knowledge of industry safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods.
• Ability to operate a personal computer, laptop, tablet and mobile devices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with consumers and others.
