Job Summary
The Physical Plant Department invites applications for a full-time, nonexempt position. Under general supervision, the employee performs semi‑skilled tasks in building construction and maintenance requiring general knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques, materials, tools, and equipment.
Responsibilities- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections of buildings and equipment.
- Perform required preventive maintenance and repair activities.
- Address routine and emergency repairs, including correcting minor electrical malfunctions, repairing basic plumbing fixtures, pipes, and fittings, replacing light fixtures, repairing doors and locks, and changing filters, belts, and hoses.
- Assist in preparing building components and systems for trades units and/or contractors.
- Disassemble and install equipment and fixtures.
- Support skilled maintenance tasks performed by journey level trades personnel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Three years of related work experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- For work with equipment containing CFC refrigerants, achieve and maintain valid certification in accordance with federal law.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Complete logs, work order forms, and prepare reports.
- Work on, around, over, and under fixed equipment or machinery.
- Manipulate heavy equipment, tools, supplies, or exert force up to 70 lbs.
- Wear and work in personal protective equipment and in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions.
- Involve bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting.
- May require work in adverse weather conditions.
- May require wearing and working in personal protective equipment.
- May require operating a variety of equipment, including office equipment.
Employees in this job class assigned to work with equipment containing CFC refrigerants must achieve and maintain valid certification in accordance with federal law.
