Job SummaryA Building Repairer maintains and repairs the physical structures and utility systems of public buildings. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees work a conventional week. Work is performed in and outside of public buildings where seasonal extremes of weather, cramped spaces, and working at heights from ladders and scaffolding may be encountered. The work requires moderate physical exertion involving the movement of lumber, cement, pipes, and masonry products.
Minimum Qualifications- Education: High school diploma or GED certification from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Three years of building repair and maintenance work, including experience in four of the five following trades: plumbing, carpentry, painting, masonry or electrical work.
- Equivalency: Six months of additional experience in one of the five trades may be substituted for each year of the high school or GED requirement.
- Licenses: Valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent, eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. Provisional driver’s license is not acceptable.
- Driver’s license upload: Candidates must upload a copy of their valid driver’s license with application.
- Driver’s license requirement: Possession of a City driver’s license may be required within one year of employment.
- Please submit your application no later than 12:00 AM on the closing date to be eligible for consideration.
- Knowledge of tools, materials, techniques, and equipment of four of the five areas: painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing or electrical trades.
- Skill in performing painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, or electrical work.
- Ability to work on ladders and scaffolds.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprint authorization. Must be successfully completed.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
EligibilityQualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
