Position: A-Repairman-Carpenter/Mason SKLD Facilities Bus

Maryland Transit Administration – A-Repairman-Mason/Carpenter (8614) – Local 1300 – Open to all qualified employees.

Responsibilities
  • Work on renovations, corrective repairs, and construct all types of wood, metal, or composite structures such as forms, buildings, sheds, and offices.
  • Read blueprints, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and be familiar with structural and building codes.
  • Perform masonry work including laying brick, block, and concrete of all kinds.
  • Lay tile and carpeting floors, suspend ceilings, hang sheet rock, spackle/finish/paint, repair doors and glass, and perform other maintenance duties as required.
Qualifications
  • At least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the State of Maryland.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the masonry and carpentry field.
  • Substitution: completion of a formal vocational or technical trade school in the Carpentry/Masonry program may substitute one year of experience up to 5 years.
  • Substitution: U.S. Armed Forces military service experience related to staff work may substitute one year for one year of required experience.
Special Requirements
  • Maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back requirements.
  • Work shifts, evenings, some holidays, and weekends may be required.
  • Be exposed to hazards; wear protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
  • Be considered an "Essential Employee" and sign all related policies.
  • Eligible for background investigation under federal and state laws.
  • Subject to pre‑employment drug and substance abuse testing.
  • If duties require motor vehicle operation, possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license.
Environmental Conditions
  • May travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the service area in all weather conditions.
  • Exposed to toxic materials, fumes, asbestos, flammable or combustible agents; use personal safety equipment as required.
  • Physical requirements:

    climbing, bending, crouching, stretching, and lifting objects weighing at least 50 lbs.
