Class Description
Building & Maintenance Technician I is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all architectural elements and various building systems for the college facilities.
Minimum Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years minimum of experience in the construction or maintenance trades. Professional certifications or licenses preferred.
- Flexibility and ability to change shift when requested.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record of less than five (5) points.
- Ability to participate in blood borne pathogens training within six (6) months of employment.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed waiver.
- May be required to pass a background investigation including driving, fingerprint, and criminal history evaluation.
- May be required to complete a pre‑hire post‑offer physical examination, including drug screening.
- Electrical/Mechanical:
Inspect, test, maintain, repair, and replace indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, controls, wiring, fans, pumps, and related equipment. - Plumbing:
Maintain, repair, and replace potable water systems, piping, fixtures, pumps, valves, meters, and controls; respond to plumbing issues and clear clogged drains. - Carpentry/Paint:
Repair and replace structural woodwork, cabinets, floors, drywall, and perform minor and major building repairs, including painting and wallpapering. - Functional Tasks:
Install and maintain fire extinguishers; prepare detailed work plans and material lists; suggest building modifications to improve efficiency; assist supervisor with inventory and shop equipment; participate in snow removal or other emergency duties; adhere to all county, state, and college policies and procedures.
This is an essential position requiring availability for building emergencies and the ability to work overtime, special hours, 24‑hour standby, or call‑in for emergencies. The employee must be available to perform regular duties or other assigned duties at times when the campus is closed to students and non‑essential staff.
