Supervisor, Light Rail Track Maintenance

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising repair personnel involved in inspection and maintenance of rails and their components. Ensures completed repair work is safe for travel, maintains inspection records, tracks and analyses time, materials, and expenses for projects, and directs major track maintenance operations such as rail change-out, crosstie replacement, track lining and surfacing, and ballast cleaning. Advises the Superintendent, Maintenance of Way on necessary equipment, tools, and materials for day‑to‑day activities;

operates track maintenance equipment; reviews external repair and maintenance contracts; supervises contracted personnel; and performs other related duties. Directly supervises “A” and “B” Repairmen.

Qualifications
  • High school graduation or high school equivalency certification.
  • Three (3) years of experience repairing, installing, inspecting, and cleaning rail and related facilities.
Substitution Information
  • Additional experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
  • Additional college or university education may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of required experience, up to four years of the required non‑supervisory experience.
Special Requirements
  • Employee may be subject to 24‑hour call‑in and must maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back requirements.
  • Must work shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • May be exposed to hazards requiring protective clothing and appropriate safety equipment.
  • Employees are considered “Essential Employees” and must agree to all related policies and procedures.
  • Eligible applicants may be subject to a background investigation under federal and state laws.
  • Subject to pre‑employment drug and substance abuse testing in accordance with federal and Maryland regulations.
  • May be required to operate a motor vehicle and must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license.
