Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
Job Overview
M-F 7:30 – 4 pm (40 hr, no mandatory OT). There is an on‑call schedule of 1 week on call every 5 weeks. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and repair facilities and properties, including painting structures and equipment; install and correct minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and structural problems; document installations and repairs as required by regulatory agencies.
- Operate and service boilers, chillers, motors, fans, pumps and related mechanical equipment; repair appliances and equipment.
- Move and store furniture and equipment.
- Estimate time and material costs of projects; requisition new supplies and equipment.
- Perform landscape maintenance: plant and tend flowerbeds, prune shrubs and trees, water lawns, spray trees, lawns and flowerbeds with fertilizers and insecticides, raking, removing fallen leaves, sweeping external walkways, moving snow with power removal equipment or shovel, applying snow‑melting chemical when necessary, and keeping drainage ditches and culverts free of obstructions.
- Drive vehicle to other locations as required.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Hourly salary range (Maryland): $27.12–$28.94 per hour. Salary may vary based on geographic location, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees in this role.
Minimum Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- May require a trade license.
- Preferred: 1 year of related experience (painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical).
- Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record.
- Basic writing and communication skills.
- Basic computer skills may be required.
- Ability to work on a team.
- May have on‑call duties; may need to drive vehicle to other locations.
Regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Frequently lift or move objects 10–50 lbs; lift or move objects >100 lbs with assistance or a powered industrial truck. Frequently push carts weighing up to 250 pounds on flat flooring or ramps. Frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; occasionally sit, climb or balance.
Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus. Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools and work with a variety of chemicals and solvents. May require climbing ladders for top‑level selection.
