We are seeking a HVAC Technician whose primary duty is to repair and maintain the heating, ventilation, and cooling systems for all Peabody buildings, maintaining a safe and comfortable environment. Working in partnership with outside contractors and vendors, the position ensures the safe and efficient operation of the equipment. This position also performs a variety of additional duties in support of the maintenance operation of Peabody, which consists of 11 buildings and 6 performance halls.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Operate, maintain, repair and adjust all HVAC systems on the Peabody campus including water source heat pumps, window air conditioners, split systems, boilers, hot water heaters, fan coil units, cooling towers, pumps, chillers, and automatic temperature control systems.
- Work closely with outside contractors to ensure adherence to existing service contracts and collaborate on problem resolution.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctions; provide preventive maintenance; schedule work with contractors; maintain parts, components, and materials.
- Maintain an inventory of hot water, steam systems, chilled water, domestic water replacement components, air handling unit filter schedules, belts, bearings, and electronic/pneumatic components.
- Be expert in the computerized Metasys system.
- Open and close work orders; enter them efficiently into the work order system; keep appropriate stakeholders informed of status.
- Have thorough knowledge of three Leslie unit hot water heaters.
- Collaborate with facilities and housekeeping teams on snow removal and safety.
- Assist with furniture replacement for campus spaces and maintain the office warehouse.
- Perform routine to intermediate plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.
- Maintain all tools, equipment, and inventory to ensure safety and availability.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as assigned to convey or gather information required for the job.
- Comply with all building and safety regulations and university policy and procedures.
- Respond to emergency situations after hours for health and safety; occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of experience in an HVAC service environment.
- MD driver's license with a good driving record.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- HVAC Journeyman’s license.
- Air conditioning and electronics courses.
- Familiarity with steam traps, pumps, and pneumatic control systems.
- Significant experience with HVAC, maintenance, and/or contracting work environments.
