Commercial HVAC Technician I - Naval Air Station Patuxent River
HVAC Technicians on the NAS Patuxent River team come from all areas of the Tri‑County of Southern Maryland. Specializing in commercial HVAC, the Technician performs maintenance, repair, replacement, and modernization of HVAC systems in order to achieve regulated climatic conditions. The position requires extensive knowledge of HVAC principles and the ability to diagnose, test, and correct malfunctions. The Technician must be a current licensed journeyman with an EPA certification and have the skill level to make repairs on a variety of systems.
Salary- $43.21 per hour

- Work on various types of HVAC units:
- Split package, residential style, light commercial, mini‑splits, VAVs, and AHUs
- Use a multi‑meter to check voltage lamp
- Use a torch for brazing
- Prepare work orders and cost materials estimates
- Assist in training lower‑level workers in mechanical repair techniques
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of commercial heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems
- Current Maryland journeyman license
- EPA Universal refrigeration license
- HVAC training or equivalent
- Regular, dependable attendance required
- Ability to work overtime, evenings & weekends
- Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL , or willingness to obtain one
- Pass a pre‑employment drug screening
- U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations
- Work independently as a self‑starter
- Read schematic diagrams
- Understand the refrigeration cycle with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend repair strategies
- Practice workplace safety in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of HVAC equipment, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
- Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
- Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
- Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions
