Position Overview
The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is the owner and operator of BWI Thurgood Marshall and Martin State Airports. We are seeking a Facility Maintenance Supervisor I to join our Office of Facilities Maintenance at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).
Essential Employee Status
All employees designated as emergency essential are required to be available to work during weather, operational, and/or disaster emergency conditions. This position requires 24-hour availability and any shift as required by MAA operational needs.
Location
The position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.
Responsibilities
- Supervise building maintenance technicians and skilled tradesmen such as plumbers, carpenters, painters, welders, locksmiths, masons, sign fabricators, and electricians.
- Perform general and specialized administrative duties, including reviewing and approving leave requests, counseling employees, writing interdepartmental reports, attending meetings, and corresponding with upper‑level supervisors and other departments.
- Maintain safe operating practices, enforce them through building maintenance inspections, writing, and following up on work orders via the automated work order system.
Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high‑school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance, grounds, or skilled trades work. One year of that experience must be in a lead worker or crew leader capacity. This experience must include at least two years of maintenance work involving interaction with the public in large facilities or maintaining outdoor grounds.
Additional Requirements
Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.U.S. Armed Forces military service experience defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year‑for‑year basis.Employees may be required to possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated. Employees must also maintain a valid US DOT Medical Card or MVA‑issued waiver every two years.Employees may be required to satisfy the employing administration’s training and certification program requirements during the probationary period and for permanent status.Employees seeking transfer to another administration may be required to satisfy that administration’s training and certification program requirements.Employees assigned to the BWI Airport must obtain an MAA Airfield Operators Permit per Maryland Regulations before permanent appointment.Other Requirements
Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform and supervise maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters in tunnels, underground, and in buildings.Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility, and be expected to maintain a reliable communication link at their own expense for emergency call‑back requirements.Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead‑based paint, or chromium may be required to undergo periodic medical testing, pass hazardous materials training, and have the ability to wear a respirator.Employees in this classification are considered “Essential Employees” and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to “Essential Employee” status.Candidates will be subject to pre‑employment drug testing as per Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11.Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing per Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11.Equal Opportunity Employment
