Position: Facility Maintenance Supervisor I

Responsibilities

  • Supervising building maintenance technicians and skilled tradesmen such as plumbers, carpenters, painters, welders, locksmiths, masons, sign fabricators, and electricians in the building maintenance section.
  • Performing general and specialized administrative duties, including reviewing and approving leave requests; counseling employees; writing inter‑departmental reports; attending meetings; and corresponding with upper‑level supervisors and other departments on the daily activities at BWI Marshall Airport.
  • Maintaining safe operating practices and enforcing them through building maintenance inspections, writing, and following up on work orders through the automated work‑order system.

This is an emergency essential position. All employees designated as emergency essential are required to be available to work during weather, operational, and/or disaster emergency conditions. The position requires work in a 24‑hour facility and you must be available to work any shift as required by the operational needs of the MAA.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications
    :
    • Education:

      Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
    • Experience:

      Five years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance, grounds, or skilled trades work. One year of this experience must have been in a lead worker or crew leader capacity. At least two years of maintenance work must have involved interacting with the public in large facilities or maintaining outdoor grounds.

    :
    • Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
    • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience may also be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for required education and experience.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Employees applying for the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I classification may be required to possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated, and to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. DOT Medical Card (or MVA‑issued waiver) every two years.
  • Employees may be required to satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements during the probationary period and to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.
  • Employees may be required to obtain an MAA Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations , prior to permanent appointment.
Additional Information
  • Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform and supervise maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters, such as tunnels, underground, and buildings.
  • Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous and safe operation of the facility. Employees are subject to call‑in and must maintain a reliable communication link at their own expense for emergency call‑back requirements.
  • Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead‑based paint, or chromium may be required to undergo periodic medical testing, pass hazardous materials training, and wear a respirator.
  • Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.
  • Candidates will be subject to pre‑employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland.
