Instrumentation Technician Supervisor I oversees installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical equipment in treatment plants and pumping stations. Supervises instrumentation technicians. Incumbent works a conventional week; overtime may be required in emergencies. Work may involve noise, heat, high voltage, chemicals, dirt, and toxic or explosive gases.
ResponsibilitiesResponsible for supervising technicians, maintaining records and reports, developing and implementing callback procedures, and interpreting City policies for subordinates. Provide training and supervise emergency response activities.
QualificationsEducation:
Associate of Arts degree in instrumentation or electronic technology from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Minimum five years in installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment such as testing equipment, flow meters, transmitters, recording devices, quindar tone equipment, current-to-time pulse equipment, and time relays.
Alternatively, equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses:
Valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver’s license or equivalent out-of-state license.
- Knowledge of techniques, tools, and materials used in installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of electronic, instrumentation, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of digital, analog, and solid state electronics.
- Knowledge of design and fabrication of complex electronic equipment.
- Knowledge of safety precautions in equipment repair.
- Ability to read schematics.
- Ability to use hand tools and testing equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, and Quindar Signal Testers.
- Ability to maintain records and write reports.
- Ability to develop and implement callback procedures.
- Supervisory ability.
Eligible candidates for trust positions required to complete Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint authorization.
ProbationAll selected candidates must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
EligibilityQualified candidates considered for vacancies for at least six months.
Education AccreditationEducation credentials must be from accredited institutions. Out-of-US credentials evaluated for US equivalency.
Selection ProcessApplicants meeting minimum qualifications placed on eligible list, evaluated for training and experience. Successful applicants placed on employment-certified eligible list for at least six months.
