Primary Purpose & Summary
Talen Energy is looking for qualified candidates to fill openings for Plant Technician-Operations at the H.A. Wagner facility in Baltimore, MD (Pasadena area). The position reports to the Shift Supervisor and offers a salary range of $70,000 to $90,000 annually, adjusted based on experience and other factors as permitted by law. Successful candidates will also participate in Talen Energy’s Short‑Term Incentive program and receive an exceptional benefits package.
Responsibilities- Ensure that appropriate safety procedures are followed.
- Operate, perform regular preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, test, and make rounds, taking regular readings as required to maximize asset value.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks and record preventive maintenance activities.
- Assist in training and development of other employees in performing preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities.
- Practice situational leadership, safety, and environmental stewardship.
- Assist with equipment or system problem identification and recommend solutions.
- Assist with developing or modifying operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.
- Assist in requisitioning parts and supplies.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Perform job duties safely and adhere to all safety, environmental, and NERC compliance requirements.
- Maintain qualifications as an Emergency Response Team Member and complete all required Safety Annual Requalification Training.
- Demonstrate the ability to complete job assignments in a setting that requires teamwork and independent decision making, including performing Watch Station Rounds independently.
- Exhibit solid verbal and written communication skills (e.g., clear walk‑ie‑talkie communication).
- Understand and utilize technical procedures and apply critical thinking to solve technical problems.
- Think clearly and perform duties during emergency or high‑stress situations.
- Complete Plant Operator Qualifications Training Program.
- Have aptitude in math, mechanical/electrical ability, and production control.
- Work rotating 12‑hour shifts and overtime with minimum supervision.
Minimum of vocational training or mechanical experience. Preferred: 5 years of experience in a power plant, hands‑on experience with all aspects of power plant operations and maintenance—including mechanical maintenance, instrumentation and electrical systems, and a working knowledge of power cycles. High school graduate or vocational training with experience in industrial operations, mechanical, or electrical fields such as pumps, valves, motors, machinery mechanics, electrical and control theory.
Licensesand Certifications Required
Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving standards. Stationary Engineer License is preferred for experienced candidates.
Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsMust possess mobility to walk, climb, lift, and work outside in severe weather conditions. Must be able to work frequent overtime and/or weekends on short notice. The position requires a rotating shift schedule, including weekend and overnight duty. Must respond to emergency situations as a member of the emergency response team.
