Primary ResponsibilitiesThe following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.
- Performs electrical trades work on machinery, transformers, generators, circuit breakers, controls/switching gears, pumps and air handlers, including, installation, maintenance, modification, ad repair in accordance with generally accepted electrical trade standards/codes.
- Replaces parts such as fuses, transformers, coils, and switches.
- Connects wires by splicing or by using mechanical connectors.
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, and installs conduit, electro-metallic tubing, and flexible metal conduit.
- Wires control panels and adjusts equipment controls and instruments. Ensures the accuracy of mathematical computations relative to load capacities and connections of electrical wiring and equipment.
- Tests newly installed and pre-existing electrical circuits, checking all factors including the amount of current carried, construction plans. Replaces faulty switches, plugs and other parts of electrical systems and fixtures.
- Disassembles and reassembles complicated electro-mechanical equipment to replace broken or defective parts.
- Assures that all circuits are in conformance with state and national electrical codes by inspecting and performing safety tests on electrical lighting, emergency generators, alarm systems, communication system, medical equipment and HVAC systems.
- Assures that all circuits are properly protected, marked, and all motors have appropriate starting circuits necessary to absorb initial starting surge.
- May estimate electrical installation costs and obtain electrical permits as appropriate.
- Maintains receptacles and power switching devices in good working condition by performing regular preventative maintenance.
- Checks to see that all ground fault circuits are working properly and that major circuit breakers are tested, regularly.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Provides training and direction to Electrical Apprentices. Monitors and inspects work to insure compliance with codes and regulations. Oversees the work of electrical contractors.
- Maintains a clean, safe and orderly work environment in accordance with departmental procedures and UMMS safe work practices.
- Assures proper care in using tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintains established Medical System and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Attends and participates in in-service training programs, as required. Keeps up-to-date on changes in electrical codes and electrical formulas
Work Experience Education & Experience - Required- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
- Completion of an accepted Apprenticeship program and Journeyman license required.
- Four years of electrical maintenance experience in a combination of industrial, commercial, and residential environments, or equivalent, is required.
