Job SummaryShop Trailer Mechanic II – an on‑site shop position focused on certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and advanced mechanical work under supervision. The role demands adherence to company policies, safety standards, and positivity in customer interactions.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and repair follow‑ups on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment.
- Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and equipment lubrication.
- Utilize hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks for repairs.
- Document all work on repair orders, upload pictures, and complete DOT and other required forms accurately and timely.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment and assist with daily tool and equipment cleanup.
- Interact with the Shop Parts Department to determine and procure parts.
- Co‑operate with the Service Writer to assess customer needs and address concerns.
- Manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and use judgment in scheduling.
- Maintain shop‑assigned service trucks and conduct safety checks, pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment including aluminum, chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, liftgates, and steering systems.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various trailer systems using test instruments, handheld computers, and pressure gauges.
- Assist more senior technicians with diagnostics and complex repairs.
- Adhere to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety, health, and environmental policies.
- Participate in mandatory safety training and company‑required training programs.
- High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related work experience; candidates with a related degree or additional years of experience may also qualify.
- Provide a complete set of hand tools needed for the job.
- OEM training and certifications preferred.
- Must comply with DOT regulations and pass a DOT‑regulated background screening.
- Valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining, or a DOT physical if less than four months of validity remains.
- Minimum age 21 years and a valid driver’s license.
- Safe driving record required.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
- ASE T4 (Brakes)
- ASE T5 (Suspension)
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
- ASE T7 (HVAC)
- ASE 608/609 (Emission Control)
- Knowledge of trailer parts and systems for repair and maintenance.
- Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
- Physical stamina for lifting, bending, climbing, and performing moderate heavy labor.
- Excellent visual judgment and spatial awareness.
- Clear, concise written and verbal communication.
- Ability to select appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
- Hourly pay range: $24.23 – $36.35 per hour, adjustable based on location and qualifications.

- Salary may include commission or incentive programs based on performance.
