A Cement Finisher mixes, pours and finishes concrete for a variety of construction and maintenance projects. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek; some evening and weekend hours may be required. Work is performed outdoors where incumbents are exposed to inclement weather, construction sites and traffic.

Work requires strenuous physical activity including lifting of heavy objects, bending, stooping, crawling and stretching.

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

• Experience:
  
  Have two years of experience performing cement finishing work.
• OR Have completion of one year of the required coursework in a cement finishing or related curriculum in an accredited high school or vocational school may be substituted for one year of the experience requirement.

• Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management may be required.
• Possession of a City's driver's license may be required within one year of employment.
• PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.
• NOTE:
  
  YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING.

• Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials and techniques used in cement finishing.
• Knowledge of the characteristics of concrete and chemical additives used to speed or slow setting times.
• Knowledge of general construction procedures.
• Knowledge of safety precautions.
• Ability to operate a pneumatic drill and a concrete saw.
• Ability to assign and review the work of laborers.

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
