NATURE OF WORK:

An MSA Maintenance Senior Technician – Carpentry Specialty is the advanced level of skilled maintenance work with primary responsibility for performing journey-level and advanced carpentry work in support of Maryland Stadium Authority facilities and operations.

An employee in this classification performs skilled construction, installation, alteration, preventive maintenance, and repair of buildings, structures, fixtures, furnishings, doors, walls, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, and other facility components. The employee is expected to possess substantial knowledge and demonstrated skill in the carpentry trade and to independently assess carpentry-related

problems, determine appropriate methods of repair or construction, estimate materials and labor requirements, and complete assignments in accordance with accepted trade practices.

While carpentry is the primary trade specialty of this position, the employee is also expected to possess general building maintenance knowledge and sufficient skills in other trades to perform routine and minor maintenance and repair assignments involving plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, mechanical equipment, and other facility systems when such work does not require a specialized license or certification.

Work at this level is distinguished from lower-level maintenance classifications by the complexity of assignments, advanced carpentry skills required, degree of independent judgment exercised, and responsibility for diagnosing and resolving difficult building maintenance and construction problems.

Employees do not normally exercise formal supervisory responsibility. However, employees may provide technical guidance and direction to less experienced skilled or unskilled maintenance employees, assist with coordinating projects and work assignments, and serve as a technical resource

on carpentry-related projects.

Employees receive general direction
* from a Facilities Assistant Manager or other designated higher-level maintenance staff. Employees may be required to work in areas of extreme heat or cold; work from ladders, lifts, or scaffolding; work in areas of extreme heat or cold; and lift, carry, move, and position building materials, tools, furniture, equipment, and other heavy objects.

  • Performs skilled and advanced carpentry work in the construction, installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of buildings, structures, fixtures, furnishings, and facility components.
  • Constructs, installs, repairs, replaces, and modifies walls, partitions, doors, door frames, windows, ceilings, flooring, trim, molding, cabinetry, shelving, counters, furniture, and other wood or manufactured building components.
  • Frames walls, partitions, openings, platforms, enclosures, and other structures using wood, metal studs, and other appropriate building materials.
  • Installs, adjusts, repairs, and replaces doors, frames, hinges, locks, closers, panic hardware, thresholds, and related architectural hardware.
  • Performs finish carpentry, including installation and repair of trim, molding, baseboards, cabinetry, countertops, shelving, paneling, and other finished surfaces.
  • Installs and repairs drywall, wallboard, ceiling systems, and related materials, including measuring, cutting, fitting, fastening, patching, and finishing.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces various types of flooring and associated components as assigned.
  • Measures, cuts, shapes, assembles, and installs wood, metal, composite, and other construction materials using hand tools, power tools, and stationary woodworking equipment.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, sketches, specifications, measurements, work orders, and other technical information necessary to complete carpentry and construction assignments.
  • Develops layouts and determines appropriate dimensions, materials, methods, and sequencing for assigned carpentry projects.
  • Estimates quantities of lumber, hardware, fasteners, wallboard, flooring, ceiling materials, and other supplies required for projects.
  • Identifies structural, architectural, or building-component deficiencies and recommends appropriate repair or replacement.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspections of doors, hardware, walls, ceilings, flooring, furnishings, and other architectural components.
  • Constructs and installs temporary structures, partitions, barriers, platforms, displays, work areas, and other components required to support facility operations, events, renovations, or special projects.
  • Repairs and maintains fencing, gates, railings, benches, signs, and other facility structures and fixtures.
