$21.00-$21.84 per hour | Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.

Are you mechanically inclined and the person people call when something needs to be fixed? Do you have experience in maintenance, equipment repair, field service, grounds maintenance, automotive repair, or another hands-on mechanical role?
You May Be Exactly Who We're Looking For.The Arc Baltimore is looking for an Equipment Mechanic to help maintain and repair the commercial landscaping equipment, machinery, and specialty tools our teams rely on every day. Direct small engine experience is a plus, but it is not required. Training will be provided for candidates who bring strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on repair experience, and a willingness to learn.
Candidates with backgrounds in apartment/facilities maintenance, field service, grounds maintenance, equipment repair, automotive or diesel repair, industrial maintenance, and other hands-on repair roles are encouraged to apply.
What You'll Work OnYou'll have the opportunity to work with a variety of commercial equipment, including:
- Commercial mowers
- String trimmers/weed trimmers
- Chainsaws
- Backpack and push blowers
- Hedge trimmers
- Pressure washers
- Snow blowers
- Skid loaders
- Trailers
- Other landscape and janitorial equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance on commercial equipment.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair gas- and electric-powered equipment.
- Diagnose and repair minor and major engine and transmission issues.
- Complete tire, wheel, and brake repairs.
- Sharpen and replace mower blades.
- Research parts and part numbers using manufacturer catalogs, vendor resources, and online resources and provide information to the Administrative Assistant for ordering.
- Provide emergency roadside service when needed.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Coordinate repair priorities with your supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop.
- Assist with welding and steel fabrication for repairs (training provided).
- Operate forklifts and skid steers (training provided).
- Participate in The Arc Baltimore's semi-annual vehicle inspection program.
- Complete required agency training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- At least two years of experience in equipment repair, maintenance, mechanical work, field service, or a related hands-on field.
- Mechanical aptitude and an interest in troubleshooting and solving problems.
- Experience with small engines, 2-stroke/4-stroke engines, commercial landscaping equipment, or similar equipment is preferred, but not required.
- Willingness to learn and develop additional equipment-repair skills.
- Ability to read and write English proficiently.
- Welding and forklift experience are helpful, but not required.
- Typical schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.
-3:00 p.m. - Valid Maryland driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to safely operate a large six-wheel crew cab landscape truck with a 20-foot trailer.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical that includes DOT certification.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and regularly push, pull, carry, and maneuver tools and equipment.
- Position requires standing for approximately 90% of the workday.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round and occasionally in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working around power tools, lifts, welding equipment, gasoline, diesel fuel, oils, solvents, paints, compressed air, and other materials while following established safety procedures.
- Must provide and wear steel-toed boots while on duty.
- Must supply the tools and toolbox necessary to perform job duties.
- Occasional evenings, weekends (including snow removal), or holidays may be required based on operational needs.
