Position: Building Maintenance Engineer (Building Systems Chief) (Sign-on Bonus)

University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking aBuilding Maintenance Engineer (Building Systems Chief) to join the Department of Facilities Maintenance. Under limited supervision, serves as senior facilities representative duringcampus "off-hours" to ensure that all equipment is operating to standards and to respond to emergencies involving facilities and/or equipment operations.

The shift for this position is:
  • Thursday to Monday: 3:30pm – 12am
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: OFF
SIGN ON BONUS OFFERED!

The selected candidate for this position is eligible for asign-on bonus of $5,000. Half will be paid following 30 days of satisfactory service at UMB and the remaining half will be paidafter successful completion of a probationary period of 6 months.

The sign on bonus is eligible only to candidates new or returning to UMB.

All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Monitors HVAC computer system and responds todeficiencies.
  • Makes building rounds to inspect equipment for safe operation and proper maintenance.
  • Starts, operates and secures HVAC-type equipment. Makes minor repairs.
  • Moves small equipment such as electric heaters and pedestal fansup numerous stairs due to a lack of heat or cooling.
  • Responds to police calls for door openings.
  • Answers telephones and takes messages. Writes work orders. Callsin help as needed.
  • Responds to emergency situations which may require climbing,lifting or use of tools in a stressful and inhospitable atmosphere and within a short amount of time, such as fires, floods, wind,snow.
  • May participate in clean-up of emergency events to include moving vacuum cleaners full of water, lifting pumps, pushingsqueegees, brooms, mops, etc. May also use power tools to cut andfasten items such as plywood for security purposes.

    Qualifications : MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    High School Diploma or GED.

    Experience:

    Six years of progressively responsible experience in the trade(s) where assigned to include at leasttwo years in a lead or supervisory capacity .

    Other:

    Except for qualifications established by law,additional related experience and formal education in which one hasgained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with
    30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
