The Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services (MOHS) is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional for the Peer Recovery Specialist position within the Emergency Services Team to provide peer recovery support services to clients with substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and/or co-occurring disorders to begin and maintain a path to recovery. The Peer Recovery Specialist will provide onsite support at MOHS funded shelters and drop‑in centers.

Work involves weekly site visits and other service referral connections. Employees in this class work weekdays;
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or flexible shifts as needed. Work requires minimal physical exertion. Work in this position includes no supervisory responsibilities or requirements. This position will report directly to the Operations Officer II (Emergency Services Manager).

• Lead resident support groups in the various shelter locations.
• Provide outreach services on a weekly basis at assigned site locations.
• Assist clients with symptom management and recovery by modeling wellness, personal responsibility, and self‑advocacy.
• Coordinate training with internal and external stakeholders on substance abuse and peer recovery programs.
• Promote personal growth and development with mental health and substance abuse issues.
• Assist, teach, and support clients regarding activities of daily living.
• Assist the Emergency Services Team with crisis management in the various shelter locations and support the coordinated entry line during Code Red and Code Purple winter shelter operations.
• Attend meetings and annual conferences as they relate to peer recovery services.

Education: Have an associate degree in human services or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Have career experience in social services, supportive housing, or working with homeless persons; and 2 years of HMIS experience, 1 year of paid experience performing community service work, providing information and referral services, or promoting community activities.

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
