Pay Rate: $17.50/hour
Catholic Charities of Baltimore, My Sister's Place, is looking for a Program Assistant. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 1 PM - 5 PM, 20 hours per week. Open since 1982, My Sister’s Place Women’s Center is Baltimore City’s longest-serving women’s day shelter and resource center for women and children experiencing homelessness and poverty. We empower those we serve to overcome their situations through our services, which include extensive workshops centered on the 8 realms of wellness: emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical, environmental, financial, occupational, and social wellness.
Responsibilities- Provide information, assistance, and security to the program and its guests in a welcoming and hospitable manner.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Monitor compliance with policies and procedures, report incidents, write violations, and intervene in emergencies as required.
- Assist with the orientation of residents and/or volunteers; observe behavior and report activities to the supervisor as needed.
- Demonstrate the program’s philosophy through participation in activities, positive communication, and a helpful attitude.
- Maintain logs and files related to various programs; accurately reflect events as they occur.
- Ensure residents are aware of their rights and the grievance process.
- Monitor building activity to ensure safety, security, and compliance with building policies.
- React to emergency situations in a professional manner.
- Collaborate with other staff and volunteers to deliver high-quality services to clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties
- Provide general assistance to guests and assist in delivery of services including meals, clothing, laundry, restroom, and shower room operations.
- One year of related experience, preferably working with homeless or at-risk populations.
- Must be certified in CPR and/or First Aid within six months of employment.
- Ability to use or learn computer systems and software necessary to perform position functions (basic computer, web browsing, online training, and email).
- Reliable and punctual with consistent attendance.
- Good social skills and respectful demeanor toward staff, clients, and visitors.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to intervene between two or more people in a non-violent manner.
- Knowledge of basic concepts of personal care, housekeeping, and other care areas.
- Ability to relate to and show consideration for a variety of personalities.
- Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ascending or descending stairs, ladders, ramps, and similar structures.
- Remaining stationary for periods of time; may be standing or sitting for extended periods.
- Ability to move in different positions to complete tasks in various environments, including tight spaces.
