Compensation Range: $53,040.00 - $66,300.00.

Position Duties

The Area Coordinator (AC) is a full time live‑in professional staff member reporting directly to the Director of Residence Life and Housing and responsible for direct supervision of student staff, including their training and development. The AC will supervise a Senior Resident Assistant, Resident Assistants, and Desk Attendants (the number of employees ranges based on community assignments) and oversee 300–600 residents across individual or multiple residence halls.

  • Leadership, Development, and Support:
    Build a culture of personal responsibility within their residential community;
    Ensure a high level of care, student development and customer service;
    Establish rapport with residents through daily interactions and consistent presence and role modeling;
    Assist students with academic, social, spiritual, and personal needs;
    Mediate conflicts and resolve issues as they arise;
    Act as a resource, maintaining knowledge and referring students to campus resources.
  • Participate in the selection, training, and mentorship of student staff for student success.
  • Maintain knowledge of and educate students on university policies and community expectations;
    Investigate incident reports and take appropriate actions, which includes working with the Office of Student Integrity.
Department Operations
  • Under the direction of the housing operations team, support housing operations processes, hall openings and closings, and report facilities/hall concerns.
  • Actively respond to student emergency contacts / family calls and outreach.
  • Provide budget management for staff development, team building, and the execution of educational hall programming.
  • Actively participate in the after‑hours on‑call rotation and complete accurate and timely administrative reports and paperwork.
  • Support committee work;
    Supervise area staff including SRAs, RAs through regularly scheduled staff meetings, one‑on‑one meetings, and additional/ongoing training for hall staff.
  • Provide leadership during times of crisis and emergencies: ACs are essential staff when the campus is experiencing a crisis or other emergency that may require an in‑person response.
Physical/Environmental Demands

Area coordinators serve on call and may have to respond to all areas of campus, often using stairs, elevators or ramps. While on call, they must be able to respond to campus issues within approximately 20–30 minutes. The position requires on‑campus living in a dorm, apartment, townhome, or house.

Work Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in student affairs or as a Resident Advisor.
  • Experience with responding to and providing support to students in crisis.
